How to Stop Wasting Your Time
Have fun and be productive
I’ve always wanted to play the guitar. One of those things.
Not like a pro or anything, just play easy songs and sing along for my own amusement.
During the quarantine, I managed to grab the guitar and play for just 5 mins every day. I followed some tutorials, simplified the chords, get the gist of the rhythm, and went for it. After a few hours of accumulated practice, I managed to play a song that resembles the original… just. I’m going to count that as a success.
It’s a lot harder than it looks, but a lot easier than I thought. You need to practice a lot of different micro-skills and then coordinate all of them into a concrete result.
Why am I telling you all this?
This morning I had a revelation. Still in bed, while debating whether to get up or not, something dawned on me:
I divide my time between low and high-quality activities, but the ones I really enjoy and give me a sense of purpose are the high-quality ones. So, why I waste my time with nonsense instead?
