I hope you are right but with Covid-19 we’ve witnessed an increase in authoritarianism from democratic countries all over. Give them the tools and they will use them. If there are protests in the street, they can just freeze your account. Is very difficult to be a rebel when you have no money at all.

We take democracy for granted but is more fragile than we think.

As for banks, what would be the point of having a whole industry that does not provide any value? Banks are mere intermediaries, when there is a system to cut the middle man, they will vanish. We’ve seen this in other industries. Not only have the threat of CBDCs, but they also have a powerful competitor with Bitcoin. I’m bearish on banks
