The Sun is Free…for Now

Ever since I remember I thought it would be great to generate electricity from the sun and use at home as a source of energy. Well, guess what, I have managed that and more…

The path to self sufficiency

Being self-sufficient has always been a dream for me. I have spend considerable amount of time fantasizing about producing my own food, collecting my own water and generating my own electricity.

Well, dream achieved. The future is here…at long last!

Currently my solar system produces enough electricity to feed all the appliances in my house and more. (The food and the water will have to wait for the moment)

This is how I did it

After extensive research (mostly procrastination) I forced myself to take action and bought 12 Jinko solar panels of 335 Wp each, for a total of 4 Kwp (KiloWatts peak). Along with that I got the Solax Inverter X1 Boost 5Kw, the structure to hold the panels and electrical material and fuses. All that for less than $4000. It is really cheap, only 10 years ago the price would have been 10x.

I did the installation myself because I wanted to learn the howto and got it checked by a qualified electrician. It was easier than I thought. As usual, everything…
